These Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch Concept Designs Look Amazing

While Apple still won’t admit it’s working on the rumored iWatch, Samsung recently confirmed that it’s working on a smartwatch of its own. Earlier this week a U.S. patent filing for the upcoming piece of wearable technology was uncovered, revealing that the device may be called the Galaxy Gear. Now, British site Voucher Codes Pro has mocked up a few concept designs for the Samsung smartwatch and it looks pretty cool.

Samsung’s patent describes the Galaxy Gear as a “wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.” That’s pretty much what we expect from a smartwatch at this point, and the new concept designs show a rectangle-shaped display that looks big enough to accomplish some of that, though we don’t see a usable keyboard fitting on such a small screen. That, we imagine, is where voice controls will need to come into play.

Voucher Codes Pro imagines that the Galaxy Gear will feature two main parts, including a plastic wristband and a flexible and possibly removable display. The site also guesses that the device will run a scaled-down version of the Android operating system, and will have an integrated LED light in the design as an alert for new notifications and even offer color customization.

There’s no word on when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, but if we’re being optimistic we’d guess that the device may make an appearance at its upcoming press conference on Sept. 4 in Berlin, where the Galaxy Note III is expected to be the main attraction.
