Microsoft just won’t give it up – it probably can’t considering how much money it has already wasted on the Surface RT – and recently released yet another ad trashing Apple’s iPad. We understand Microsoft need to be competitive in this space, but really its arguments don’t make a whole lot of sense and in nearly all cases the iPad is the better product.
At one point in the commercial it shows the Surface RT weighs more than the iPad (to accommodate for its larger screen), it seems to suggest that there aren’t any third party iPad keyboards available, and it slams the iPad for lacking a kickstand. In fact, in our own experience we’ve complained about the terribly awkward angle at which the Surface RT kickstand props the device. Microsoft also advertises that the Surface RT comes with Office – a feather in its cap, for sure – more advanced multitasking capabilities and a full-size USB port.
The commercial wraps up highlighting that the Surface RT also has more space for a more affordable price. This might work overall, but we think the Surface RT would have fared much better if it had even a fraction of the applications available for the iPad.
