Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is concluding the prequel trilogy of the the popular puzzle series from Level 5. The 3DS game follows in the footsteps of Professor Layton and the Eternal Spector and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.

Brainiacs will have their hands full with a whole new assortment of challenging 3D puzzles as they travel the world across several continents, uncovering the secrets of a lost civilization.

Where the series goes from here, nobody knows. Nintendo is on the ball with two new movies in Japan, but as for the games, could another trilogy be in the works? Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino wants to bring the game to the Wii U, but the user base might not be big enough to justify a drift away from the 3DS.

The future of this series is more puzzling than the game itself.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy launches in America in 2014.
