Microsoft on Wednesday introduced a suite of new apps for Windows Phone 8 users, including News, Finance, Weather and Sports apps that are all based on the company’s Bing brand. Windows Phone 8 still might still be in an uphill battle to attract big-name app developers—though it’s getting there!—but that doesn’t mean it can’t work on great applications of its own.
The apps themselves are pretty self explanatory, and retain Microsoft’s (in)famous tiled minimalist design. Bing News provides the latest headlines and videos of breaking news; Sports let’s you keep up-to-date with the latest scores; Weather is weather; and Finance helps you keep track of stocks at a glance, including market info, currency conversions and more.
Microsoft says the apps are being made available around the world, though features and content will vary by country. Everything looks very beautiful and well thought out, though the apps themselves aren’t particularly groundbreaking; they merely address experience that might have already been available for Windows Phone 8 users, just powered by Bing.
