Is Valve officially working on Left 4 Dead 3? A potential leak from a picture taken during a studio tour might indicate that that’s actually happening.
The DOTA 2 subreddit community on Reddit was in the Valve studios for a tour. A bunch of pictures were taken and posted on the sub. One of said pictures was the one you see at the head of this post. Redditor “r_dageek” singled out that picture along with this comment “So this picture is practically a gold mine. Explicit mention of both Source Engine 2 and L4D3. Towards the bottom of the picture there’s also a changelog for Dota that mentions the addition of a new quest.”
Here’s a zoom-in on the Left 4 Dead 3 section of the screen.
The partial line reads “[Source2] Restored L4D3’s devtest unit test.”
Alternatively, this whole thing could just be the trolling work of a few employees at Valve. The obsessive level of Internet sleuthing that surrounds the company and its exploits is known throughout the gaming community, and it’s totally plausible that some employees knew a tour group was moving through and decided to tease them with a “leak.”
Of course, it would have been better if they “accidently” confirmed Half-Life 3. I’m not even sure the Internet would still be standing today if that were the case.
Until otherwise clarified, consider this a big stinkin’ rumor and nothing more. We’ll be all over it if Valve actually does officially announce Left 4 Dead 3. Until then, stay tuned.
