Facebook hired its first chief marketing officer recently, according to a new report from AdAge. The new employee is Gary Briggs, who brings plenty of marketing experience with him to the social network. Briggs previously served as the head of marketing for Motorola Mobility under Google.
The executive certainly has his work cut out for him, especially as he tries to increase the company’s already huge audience of more than 1 billion members. In addition, he’ll likely need to oversee new newsfeed ads, both in mobile applications and on the desktop, without being too intrusive to the end user experience. If MySpace is any indication, users hate being pelted with too much “stuff” on one screen, and Facebook is already starting to look a bit crowded.
“Telling the story of such an important and still very young brand is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started,” Briggs said in a statement to AdAge, noting that he’s excited to work on a platform that connects more than a billion people. Briggs will also be responsible for overseeing the teams that work on marketing for Facebook Home.
