Were you looking forward to experiencing the effective relaunch of the now ancient Wolfenstein brand this holiday? Unfortunately, we have a little bad news: the game has now slipped into 2014.
Don’t fret, friends, the delay comes because MachineGames wants more time to make it the best and most epic Wolfenstein the world has yet seen.
Polygon caught up with Pete Hines, Bethesda’s Vice President of PR and Marketing, about the delay. And, before you ask, Bethesda is publishing the Wolfenstein: The New Order, and that’s the reason for their involvement here. This is what Hines offered up:
“MachineGames has been working on this game for a while…You don’t want to waste all that time and effort for the sake of a couple of months, if a couple of months could make all of the difference in the world…
…This needs to be the best Wolfenstein game ever made, and you can’t shortcut that.”
While Hines is speaking specifically about Wolfenstein: The New Order, his comment works generically for nearly every reasonable game delay that’s ever happened.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to drop for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. The new release date is sometime in 2014. One has to wonder if it will enjoy as much success on the 360 and PS3 if it launches after the new consoles drop.
