Curious if you will be able to unlock the bootloader on the Moto X? Well, it will depend on which carrier you go through to purchase your phone it would seem.
During the unveiling of the Moto X on Thursday there was no mention of the status of the bootloaders on the new devices and whether or not it would be unlocked. The confusion has now been cleared up by Punit Soni, VP of Product Management at Motorola. Taking to his Google+ page, he listed what we can expect.
Moto X on the Sprint, US Cellular, Rogers and T-Mobile networks will have an unlockable bootloader, and in addition, we will be offering a Verizon Wireless Developer Edition and a general North American Developer Edition.
It’s worth noting that AT&T was not listed amongst the carriers that will allow the bootloader to be unlocked.
How easy or difficult it will be to unlock these bootloaders remains to be seen, but at least we know that there will be some support out there for those who wish to customize their newly purchased Moto X handsets.
