Just about two years ago exactly BlackBerry PlayBook senior product manager Ryan Bidan left the company for Samsung. Now the current head executive of BlackBerry’s PlayBook team David Smith is walking out the door, according to AllThingsD. Smith was a vice president with BlackBerry and has reportedly resigned from his post for personal reasons, though exactly why hasn’t been made clear.
It’s possible Smith found a gig with a competitor – Samsung has been poaching execs from BlackBerry for a while now – though we’re only speculating at this point. He’s still showing up at his desk for BlackBerry, a spokesperson told AllThingsD, and has promised that he will transition his responsibilities to a new leader.
BlackBerry already said its current PlayBook won’t receive the latest BlackBerry 10 operating system, which has to be frustrating for the product team on some level, and it has been relatively mum on the tablet front for the past several months while releasing new smartphones.
