Gearbox has announced that it will be bringing the classic and beloved RTS series, Homeworld, to a wide audience in full blooming HD.
The games come from the classic days of the genre back before the turn of the millennium, when games like Starcraft, Command & Conquer and Total Annihilation were defining the order for the decade to come.
Gearbox purchased the series earlier in the year from THQ during its second bankruptcy auction for $1.35 million. The company used a panel at PAX Australia to announce the HD remakes and the intended use of digital distribution to bring them to a new generation of gamers for the first time.
The Steam Summer Sale hasn’t even officially wrapped itself up yet, and already games are crawling into my wishlist. Ugh…
If you have never played Homeworld 1 and 2, consider this the best opportunity to do so. Not only are they the first games to truly nail the RTS genre in a 3D environment, but they also sport drop dead gorgeous graphics just begging to be given a resolution boost. Look for them in the months to come.
