NVIDIA alerted pre-order users that the Shield will ship July 31. The Tegra 4 processor, Android-based handheld gaming system announced at CES earlier this year, was originally targeted for a June 27 launch but was delayed for a mechanical issue concerning a third-party component. The email sent out this morning states:

We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your SHIELD. We have great news to share with you – your SHIELD will ship on July 31st.

Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted SHIELD to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry. We built SHIELD because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Prior to the delay, NVIDIA dropped the price of the Shield to $299 in an attempt to make the device more appealing to users. The Shield allows users to play Android games and stream PC games to the Shield.

Have you received your email from NVIDIA?
