Remember when superheroes were fun? Guys and gals you actually wanted to cheer for or wanted to look up to? It’s a long forgotten day and age seeing as how Disney and Warner Bros. have turned all your favorites into a bunch of mopey and depressing stiffs. Leave it to Nintendo and Platinum Games to find the cure.
The Wonderful 101 doesn’t need any of that emotional baggage. This is game where superheroes save children from airborne buses and use the word “dude” without the slightly sense of irony. The heroes have ridiculous superpowers and even more ridiculous secret identities.
Flashes of Silver Age Marvel, Pixar’s The Incredibles, or even Director Hideki Kamiya’s older game, Viewtiful Joe, come to mind with this exciting new trailer. I’m not sure if I even remember how to enjoy superheroes without a the weight of the world lassoed around my heart.
Nintendo seems to have run into trouble though as it recently had the American trademark for “THE WONDERFUL 101” denied. “The 101” is already a trademarked phrase, and Nintendo is out to fight it. It would be an absolute shame if a ridiculous claim by the US Patent and Trademark office pushed this game’s release back any further.
We’ve been waiting so long! Just let us have it, please!
The Wonderful 101 is scheduled to be released exclusively for the Wii U on September 15th. It’s one of the reasons I’m finally picking up a Wii U this holiday season, so here’s hoping that no technicalities get in the way.
