MercurySteam has had a surprisingly decent run with the Castlevania series, and now it is about to come full circle with its final stab, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.
Konami hit a creative brick wall with the classic series, pumping out game after game of “Metroidvania” handheld titles. Solid entries to be sure, but something had to give with all that repetition, leading Konami to take part in the recent Japanese trend of outsourcing to Western studios for a fresh reboot.
Only difference is that Konami hit pay-dirt in its search with MercurySteam, and its Castlevania series found a whole new ground in its dramatic story and above average combat system. If anything, Lords of Shadow reminded the world that the company doesn’t only have to rely on Metal Gear Solid to remain relevant.
The sequel will conclude the story of Gabriel Belmont and his tragic fall into becoming Lord Dracula himself. The evil being will tear through an open-world adventure as he seeks to regain his powers and do battle with his own son, Alucard, and his former clan, the pesky Belmonts.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2 will be released this holiday season for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
