Sonic Lost World Trailer Shows off Eagle and Rhythm Wisp Powers

by Ron Duwell | July 18, 2013July 18, 2013 6:30 pm PST

I knew something would come along that would spoil my excitement for Sonic Lost Worlds. Solid gameplay has once again been hampered by gimmicky powers. Simple and basic Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay is not enough I guess.

These Wisp moves morph Sonic into colored balls, allowing him to soar like an eagle, bounce like a musical note, and float around like a small cosmos ball. They are a continuation of  the powers granted in Sonic Colors, and older powers like Laser and Drill are making a comeback too. Seeing as I didn’t play Sonic Colors, I’m not certain how these powers work, but I did notice some of them bringing the game’s fast pace to a near standstill, like that ridiculous musical note power.

I get that Sonic Colors was one of the better received Sonic games of the horrible last generation, so there might be some weight to these powers after all. I’d still like to give it a shot, but the game is now officially on my caution list only because I’ve had the carpet pulled out from under my feet one too many times.

Why couldn’t it just be Sonic running along those flawless looking levels? That in itself was exciting enough. Can you turn the powers off by any chance?

Sonic Lost World will be available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U this fall.
