Netflix Enters the Big Leagues With Multiple Emmy Nominations

Netflix has entered the big leagues of television as of today having secured multiple nominations for its original programs House of Cards and Arrested Development.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced this morning in Hollywood, and while there many familiar faces among the networks that scored chances to win golden statues, there was a definite upstart amongst the pack: Netflix. The streaming media market leader walked away with nine nominations for House of Cards and three for the fourth season of Arrested Development.

While everyone always says it’s just an honor to be nominated, in this case it’s actually true. Netflix produced shows securing any nods from the Emmys is a major victory as it adds an air of legitimacy to streaming media as a true contender in the world of television programming. It also opens the door for other venues. How long now until we see a Web series on YouTube nominated for an award?
