Tumblr posted a blog post Tuesday night warning users to change their passwords and, at the same time, published an iOS update that offers security fixes. The company didn’t dive deep into why users suddenly needed to swap out their passwords, only noting that there was a security vulnerability pointed out to the company, but it suggests there’s a major security problem – at least with the iOS and iPad applications.

“Please download the update now,” Tumblr said on its blog. “If you’ve been using these apps, you should also¬†update your password¬†(emphasis from Tumblr) on Tumblr and anywhere else you may have been using the same password. It’s also good practice to use different services by using an app like 1Password or LastPass. Please know that we take your security very seriously and are tremendously sorry for this lapse and inconvenience.”

It doesn’t appear that any passwords got in the hands of malicious individuals, though you should probably listen to Tumblr and change your password just in case. The update is available in the iTunes app store now and a link to it is below.
