SimCity Devs Leave EA to Form Indie Studio

Three of the big names behind the most recent SimCity have left EA to form Jellygrade, an indie game studio. Andrew Willmott, Ocean Quigley, and Dan Moskowitz — Lead architect, Creative Director, and Gameplay Lead, respectively — are referring to themselves as “recovering ex-AAA game developers” on the studio’s website.

The screenshot above comes from the group’s Tumblr page, and is apparently part of a “simulation about the dawn of life on earth,” according to Quigley’s twitter feed.

He also said that the game is heading to tablets first, but that they’d like to head to PC as well. Quigley in particular has been with Maxis since SimCity 3000, so it’s easy to see why he might be looking for something new after everything that’s gone on in the last few months.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what comes out of this new studio regardless of what platforms it lands on.
