LG just sent out a quick press release alerting the public that its next flagship will officially be called the “G2” and that it will be the first device under its new “G” family of smartphones. “Future smartphones in the same series will carry only the G name while the branding of mobile devices that have already been introduced will continue unchanged,” LG explained in its statement.

LG president and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park said that the company’s goal is for consumers to recognize the “G” branding and expect the highest end devices that LG has to offer.

LG said that its smartphones with 4:3 aspect rations will move forward under the “Vu” family name and that all next generation devices will have a similar UX experience.

LG hasn’t yet announced what the G2 will offer, though we largely suspect the device will be the topic of its August 7 press event, which TechnoBuffalo will be attending.
