Namco Bandai’s Project Aces Games Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Project Aces

If you read our article last week about the possibility of a new Ace Combat game and got excited about the thought of a next-gen entry in the series, put the breaks on that. It appears that the unannounced game will be making its way to the Nintendo 3DS instead.

Namco Bandai has updated the teaser site and confirmed that the game will be a Nintendo 3DS game. It also added a countdown clock until reveal, set to expire this Friday. More information on that as it arrives.

Consider me slightly bummed, I suppose. I’ve got nothing against the Nintendo 3DS, but Ace Combat has always been about grand scale aerial combat, huge maps, high quality plane design, and impressive landscapes. Chopping that down for the 3DS will get the basics right, but I doubt it would live up to the high quality aesthetic we’ve seen from the console games.

Of course, it hasn’t even been confirmed to be an Ace Combat game, and the only other hints the website offers, “V20” and “F30,” make it sound more like a racing game. “V20” is a car engine, and “F30” is the most recent generation of BMW cars. Seeing as everyone has a racing game in the works these days, that would shatter my dreams even more.

Guess we’ll have to wait until Friday to find out.
