LG Optimus G Pro Gets Major Update

LG on Wednesday announced a major update for the AT&T Optimus G Pro, a new Android smartphone that we love and highly recommend. The update adds new tools, enhanced quick remote functions and new notification features to the home button LED.

The tools include a “Smart Video” function that works similarly to Samsung’s Smart Stay feature; it takes advantage of the front-facing camera to track whether or not a user is looking at the screen while watching a video. If the user turns his or her head, the video pauses until the user looks back at the screen. It also has another Galaxy S4 feature, Dual Camera, which allows you to snap pictures using the front and rear cameras at the same time. Additionally, there’s a new option to pause video in recording — a feature we had assumed most smartphones already offered.

The Quick Remote feature, which allows you to control DVD players, Blu-Ray players, TVs and even air conditioners, has been revamped for tighter control with LG’s 2012 and 2013 Smart TVs. In addition, it now ha sa keypad that allows you to type in data while browsing on a Smart TV.

Finally, and we think a lot of Optimus G Pro users will love this, LG added the ability to customize the home button LED. You can change the color for specific alerts from specific people and more. LG also added 800 emoticons for text and email messages.

The update is available over the air now.
