Major Nelson posted recently on his blog the details for this year’s entry in the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade. Beginning on August 7th, there will be four games.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons hits on August 7th for 1200 MS Points. Coming from Starbreeze, known for games like The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness, this bright and colorful game is a huge departure from the studio’s usual fare and was one of the first things to show up on-screen at Microsoft’s infamous E3 2013 press briefing.
The side-scroller Charlie Murder is the latest from James Silva. It looks like it’ll fit the unique art and sense of humor we’ve seen in games like I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 and The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai. Look for it on August 14th for 800 MS Points.
On August 21st comes Flashback at 800 MS Points. I vividly remember playing this one on my Sega Genesis and being impressed by the motion captured animation and the stylish art design and story but totally baffled by how to play it. I’m hoping a few years time will have made it more accessible.
Finally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows comes out on August 28th for 1200 MS Points. As a lifelong Ninja Turtles fan, I continue to hope for a game that lives up to the old beat’em up games that my nostalgia goggles insist were amazing.
Between these games, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Saint’s Row IV, August is going to be a busy month. Unfortunately if you want to go wind surfing or do sweet bike moves like in the trailer above, you’ll have to supply those yourself, which involves going outside.
