AT&T on Tuesday announced that it is adding new solar mobile charging stations around New York City. The carrier first introduced solar mobile charging in June when it brought the stations to several areas in NYC.

Starting today New Yorkers will find the stations, which provide a place to charge tablets and smartphones, in: Coney Island, Rockaway Beach, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hudson River Park, Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, Orchard Beach, Piers 1 and 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Union Square Park and Governor’s Island.

“The feedback we’ve been getting on AT&T Street Charge has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re excited to bring these solar mobile charging units to even more locations,” Marissa Shorenstein, New York State President, AT&T, said. “This initiative is a direct outgrowth of Hurricane Sandy and many of the areas where AT&T will be rolling out this week were impacted dramatically by the storm.”

AT&T said the pilot will run for three to four weeks at each location and that, by the end of September, it plans to have 20 stations around the five boroughs.
