A new report indicates that Apple has finalized the fifth generation of the iPad for a Sept. 2013 release, but the second generation iPad mini remains in a state of flux.
According to DigiTimes, Apple has set a Sept. 2013 release for the next iPad which fits in with the schedule that most rumors had pointed to. What isn’t so certain is if the second generation iPad mini will accompany its larger sibling as the company continues to weight the inclusion of Retina Display technology. Should the company decide to include it, the diminutive tablets release could be pushed to the end of the fourth quarter of the year, meaning it could arrive closer to the holiday shopping season than Apple would probably be comfortable with.
The upstream suppliers that spoke with DigiTimes said that fifth generation iPad will retain the 9.7-inch screen of previous generations, but the bezels have been reduced while the number of LED tubes have been reduced to one and the battery life extended.
DigiTimes has a shaky track record at best, but this current report fits in with the bits and pieces that have been trickling in about these two devices for some time. It seems safe to say at this juncture that some form of Apple tablet will indeed be available this Sept.
