We still don’t know when the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini will land on American shores, if ever, but in the U.K. the 4.3-inch handset will go on sale starting this Saturday. The miniaturized handset was expected to launch in England on July 5, but a number of sites are now promising the device on contract or unlocked as early as July 1.
One retailer, Unlocked Mobiles, is selling a SIM-free Galaxy S4 Mini for £365 (about $530), promising to deliver the device by Saturday. Another online shop, Handtec, is offering the unlocked handset for slightly more at £390 (almost $600), while Phones 4U promises to start delivering on-contract units this monday.
The Galaxy S4 Mini is one of three spin-offs of Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S handset, along with the water-resistant S4 Active and the S4 Zoom, which boasts a 16-megapixel camera. The Mini seems geared towards consumers who want an S4 but can’t fit the 5-inch model in their pockets. The scaled-down variant runs the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, Samsung’s custom software on a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, 8GB of storage upgradable to 64GB via microSD card slot, 1.5GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with qHD resolution, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.
