Samsung has responded to a report that the company is shuttering its desktop PC business in an effort to focus on tablets and laptops, calling the rumor “groundless” in an official response to The Next Web:

The rumor that Samsung is withdrawing from the PC desktop business is groundless. Samsung will continue to offer diverse PC products according to consumer and market needs.

News that Samsung would stop manufacturing desktop computers surfaced yesterday in an article published by The Korea Times. The paper cited an unnamed Samsung official who claimed that due to dwindling demand the company would focus on “popular connected and portable devices.”

The report wasn’t particularly hard to swallow. Despite Samsung’s recent introduction of the ATIV One 5 Style touch-screen PC earlier this month, the last few years have seen slumping desktop sales as tablet and smartphone shipments continue to trend upwards. However, the company quickly reaffirmed its commitment to the PC market for the foreseeable future, putting this rumor to rest.
