Samsung launched its exclusive app for Jay-Z’s upcoming album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, today, offering one million smartphone owners with the Galaxy S4, S III or Note II the chance to download the new record for free on July 4, three days before its wide release.
The app is currently available through the Google Play store as a free download. You’ll also get more than just bragging rights after downloading Magna Carta Holy Grail three days ahead of your friends. The Jay-Z-approved app features behind-the-scenes footage, lyrics and additional track sharing options.
Jay-Z and Samsung’s unprecedented partnership may allow the rapper to sell one million copies of his new record before it ever hits stores, but it doesn’t mean he already has another platinum album on his hands. Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde has published a letter online arguing that the deal between Jay-Z and Samsung “doesn’t mesh with precedent.”
