Virgin Mobile announced it will offer Apple’s iPhone 5 in both black and white starting Friday, June 28. The device can be used with the carrier’s Beyond Talk plans, which offer unlimited data and messaging starting at $35 per month—customers who sign up for Auto Pay get a $5 discount each month, essentially bringing the plan down to $30.
Pricing will start at $549 for the 16GB model at participating Virgin Mobile stores and RadioShack locations across the U.S.; the 32GB and 64GB models will also be sold for $649 and $749, respectively.
Anyone looking to snub the traditional contract model for a pay-as-you-go option will find this announcement very pleasing. It has always been difficult to enjoy the latest phones outside of the U.S.’s big four carriers, so getting the iPhone 5—albiet long after the device’s initial launch—is a big deal for the Sprint subsidiary. Your price of admission is hefty, having to buy the device outright and all, but there’s no arguing with $30 per month.
