Twitter Buys Spindle, Plans to Integrate Localized Updates

Twitter recently acquired Spindle, an app that delivers local updates on shopping, food and nightlife based on a user’s location. It plans to integrate the software into its own web service in the future, though it didn’t say exactly when that will happen.

Unfortunately for Spindle fans, it looks like the app will be shutting down as the team relocates to Twitter’s San Francisco offices. In its goodbye blog post, Spindle notes the entire team is looking forward to expanding beyond updates based simply on physical proximity.

“Every time we’ve experimented and looked beyond local discovery, we’ve been amazed by the breadth and quality of content shared on Twitter,” writes Spindle. “By joining forces with Twitter, we can do so much more to help you find interesting, timely, and useful information about what’s happening around you.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
