Double Fine’s The Cave is Bound for iOS

The Cave

Ron Gilbert and Double Fine teamed up to release The Cave, an adventuring, multiple character, puzzle-based platformer for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms, back in January of this year. That was, so I thought, the last we’d hear about the title nearing release. It turns out that Sega, the publishers behind the product, are building an iOS port.

The port was playable at E3 last week, unbeknownst to a lot of us physically at the show, and Touchgen.net went hands-on with the title.

I’ve already played through The Cave with a few heroes on the Xbox 360 version of the game. It’s fun, for fans of Ron Gilbert’s wacky humor and old school adventure game puzzlers, but navigating the world can be a bit tedious. You’ll tread the same ground over and over and over during each puzzle solving expedition, and that can really bog down the experience.

Still! I’ll assert that The Cave is a well designed puzzle romp that will certainly be worth whatever minor mobile price they slap on the bad boy. For the characters, their stories and the humor alone, The Cave is a game adventure fans should absolutely go out of their way to experience.
