Facebook is holding a press event on June 20 to discuss a “big idea” that it has been working on. We originally thought that the event would focus on Facebook’s Google Reader replacement, but now TechCrunch suggests it could focus on something entirely different.
Apparently Facebook is about to add video support to Instagram. It sounds like the service will function similarly to Vine in that users will only be able to upload short video clips that range in length between 5 seconds and 10 seconds long. Instagram is famous for its filters, however, so we imagine that will play a large role in the service.
Instagram’s popularity has increased, but users have often migrated to Vine for sharing videos, which is a perfect medium that also works seamlessly with Twitter. Facebook could add its own spin and allow for the embeds to start automatically in Facebook’s News Feed, both on mobile and desktop, though we’re just spitballing right now.
