Apple is widely believed to be well on its way to releasing a budget-friendly plastic iPhone in the near future, in addition to a new iPad mini, and apparently shipments could begin as early as August. DigiTimes said it learned from supply chain sources that Pegatron has already received orders and that components will begin arriving in July. Pegatron will begin shipping products before September, DigiTimes said, when most rumors point to the launch of both products.
Oddly, DigiTimes also says that the iPhone 5S, which will be manufactured by Foxconn, won’t begin shipping until early 2014 — the same time it says that Apple will launch its new 9.7-inch iPad. We believe Apple will likely launch its new iPhone before the start of the new year and expect that it will be announced this fall in tandem with the final launch of iOS 7.
Apple’s plastic iPhone is expected to launch in China Mobile and will also be geared at emerging markets.
