Facebook Set to Unveil “Big Idea” on June 20

Facebook has scheduled a new product press event for June 20 at its headquarters in Menlo Park. The social network says in a teaser to ABC News that, “A small team has been working on a big idea,” though it’s unclear what that big idea could mean. There are some hints the company is working on a Google Reader replacement, so there’s a good possibility we’ll see something along those lines from the deep recesses of Mark Zuckerberg’s brain.

Facebook’s most recent initiative, Facebook Home, has largely failed to grab mobile users the way the social network had hoped. With unfavorable reviews and limited availability, the app perfectly highlights the notion that most people just don’t want a phone specifically dedicated to Facebook, and Facebook only.

Let’s hope next week’s announcement brings the heat.
