Galaxy S4 Zoom Demo Video Shows Off 10X Optical Zoom, In-Call Photo Sharing

The Galaxy S4 Zoom was officially announced by Samsung on Wednesday, and today the company released a video demonstrating some of the smartphone-camera hybrid‘s new features including the 10X optical zoom and in-call photo sharing. The Zoom has been described as a niche product for photography enthusiasts, and the new promotional video attempts to demonstrate other uses for the handset.

The video follows a woman as she travels through a European city while communicating with friends through phone calls and photos. Samsung uses the trip to show off a number of new features, including the ability to to send someone a picture while talking to them and a Smart Mode that helps you choose between 25 different filters depending on the situation. We also see the 10X Optical Zoom in action, although apparently it needs to be operated manually by twisting the “Zoom Ring,” which is also used to activate the camera.

The 16-megapixel Galaxy S4 Zoom is a somewhat bulky solution for consumers who want to carry a powerful point-and-shoot camera and a smartphone with them at all times, though Samsung CEO¬†Shin Jong-kyun promises that the handset delivers “the best of both worlds, without compromise.” The device also sports a 1.5GHz processor, 8GB of memory and and runs on Android 4.2. Samsung has stated that the Zoom will launch in Q4 2013.
