Foursquare released an update for its Android app recently, and the company promises a better mapping and search experience. The upgrades to the popular social media app seem tailored to a new generation of bigger smartphones, making better use of additional screen real estate.
For mapping, Foursquare improves on an earlier update that divided the screen into two panels when the device is held horizontally, with one side displaying a map while the other shows your newsfeed. The new upgrade means the two-panel system really works now, actually letting you browse your feed and explore a map simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Foursquare’s search feature offers new filters that help you find nearby businesses and places of interest by simply tapping the “Filter” button just to the right side of the search bar. You can search by distance, price, best match and more. The updated app also lets you choose whether to include places where you’ve already checked in when you search.
For now, the update appears to be on Android exclusively, though it will likely land on Foursquare for iOS as well in the near future.
