At least for the time being, Precursor Games has decided to pull the plug on its Kickstarter campaign for Shadow of the Eternals. It has also pulled the independant PayPal donations found on the official website.
CEO Paul Caporicci states that the “temporary” closing is due to a “host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned.”
“This doesn’t mean we are going away — far from it. We’ll be re-launching the Kickstarter in just a few short weeks with a reveal of these exciting new developments.”
The company had been struggling to generate interest in the title and had managed to only bring in $127,414 of the required $1,350,000 they needed from Kickstarter. Many have pointed towards the shady history of Silicon Knights and the controversies surrounding Creative Lead Denis Dyack as suspicion not to be involved in the project.
The response from the internet prompted Dyack to release a 30 minute video explaining poor decisions he has made in the past.
What do you think has been going on in the halls of Precursor Games? Is it bailing on the project seeing as nobody is willing to fund the game, or are the “exciting new developments” a sign that a new publisher has picked up Shadow of the Eternals? If this is the case, why the need to return to crowd-funding later?
Weird and cryptic mixed messages are the exact reason nobody trusts this company, and here it continues to go again.
