A day after bringing its Android Gmail update, Google is bringing some of the same new features to iOS, including categories and improved notifications.
The new Gmail update lets you sort your messages into a handful of different categories (Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates). Primary (important) emails will show up in the main inbox, while the rest will be relegated to secondary categories that can be accessed using the slide-out menu. However, you’ll have to set up categories on your desktop first before they show up on your iPhone app.
You also get more control over when Gmail on iOS sends out push notifications. Only emails that land in the Primary folder will trigger a notification, though you can also customize those settings from your desktop account as well.
