Well, we have great news for iOS device users. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time, the well anticipated sequel to one of the most successful tower defense titles of all time, will launch as a free-to-play title on July 18th, worldwide.
For everyone else? Sorry, this one starts as an iOS exclusive. No other platforms have been announced.
Plants vs. Zombies started as a PC and Mac game. I remember dumping hours and hours into it when it launched in 2009. It didn’t hit any other platforms until almost a full year later.
Now that PopCap is owned by EA, the charming franchise will be exclusive to iOS and come brimming with microtransactions in order to support the much maligned free-to-play genre.
Oh, goody. I tend to try my best to keep snark and sarcasm out of news stories like this one, but forgive me here. I can’t help but express my frustration. Plants vs. Zombies is one of the most successful games PopCap has ever made. It’s available on just about every single platform under the sun. Why limit the audience of the sequel to iPhone and iPad users? What a joke…
