What I do in the Herd
If it’s on-camera, I probably have something to do with it. I’ll be producing, hosting, writing, editing and otherwise handling all kinds of video production stuff here at TB. I’ll likely be branded as “the hammy yet bizarre one,” but I’ve been like that since I was a kid, so if I can do that professionally, yay!
Best Thing About Being in the Herd
Being less prone to ending up a burger on someone’s fancy dinner menu!
Oh, being in THE Herd, not A herd.
I’m excited about working with a team who’s pushing hard to create great video content regularly, and bringing that product to you to enjoy. Also, I get an office to showcase all the neat toys and gadgets I’ve collected over the years. Score!
Where I Live and Work
I’m a sixth-generation Southern Californian, which is pretty rare out here. I work at TB HQ and from home (I’m a self-professed workaholic).
When I’m Not Working I’m Into
Watching too much TV (Walking Dead, Mad Men, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Archer and Game of Thrones are some of my favorites), karaoke, shopping via the miracle of the Internet, podcasting, giving hugs to my husband and my dogs, listening to music and writing scripted series when I have a rare moment to really think creatively and let the process breathe.
Computer of Choice: 15-inch MacBook Pro, though it’s 2 years old now, which means I’m due in my mind for a replacement…
Mobile Phone of Choice: My daily driver is a hot pink iPhone 5 (seriously, the metal’s been anodized to hot pink — thanks AnoStyle!), but I’ve recently been having a short affair with the HTC One. Man, that phone is delicious.
Gaming System of Choice: I’d go Xbox 360 for now, but this next generation of consoles might change my mind post-E3.
Other Favorite Gadgets: My iPad 3, Canon 60D, Ultimate Ears UE-18 Custom In-Ear Monitors, Apple TV and my SONOS setup.
Random Tech Top 5 (Five Favorite Games of All Time): Psychonauts, Final Fantasy VII, Bioshock Infinite, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Gadgets I’m Lusting After: Lumia 925, a retina iPad mini**, a Blackmagic Cinema Camera, a 4.5-inch iPhone**, Chris Hemsworth encased in carbonite**, Fitbit Flex and a Tesla.
**Some of those items don’t exist… YET.
Surfing the Interwebs
Favorite Websites: Reddit, Twitter, Google+, Techfoolery, Amazon, Fab, http://nooooooooooooooo.com/
Web Sites I Don’t Understand: Sites that knowingly promote/disseminate misinformation to intentionally confuse, scare, or otherwise influence people to do stupid or terrible things.
I know. That’s like 85 percent of the Internet, isn’t it?
What I Did Before TechnoBuffalo: I’ve hosted shows, created blogs, and wrote for sites like G4, the Mobile Nations network and The Escapist (those would be the most recent three gigs I had before TB).
Worst Job Ever: Working at Software Etc. — my life was threatened by a very scary woman who was upset her kid’s Pokemon cards weren’t going to be in on time for the holidays. I won’t get into too much detail, but needless to say, I quit later that afternoon.
Best Job Ever (Besides this One): Creating my very own podcast, Techfoolery, and sticking with it. It’s the one product I’ve created that I’m the most proud of, and it’s also something I genuinely hold dear to my heart (even if it’s pretty NSFW).
Random Things You Don’t Know About Me: I’m quite tall to a lot of people (5’11”), my last name is Basque, I love the business of television (particularly the history and ongoing behind-the-scenes of late night TV), I enjoy delicious chocolate, and I’m a Cylon.
