Microsoft Surface RT Docked

Microsoft is running a promotion starting today and running through June in which it’s offering a free Touch or Type Cover with any purchase of a Surface RT tablet. Microsoft said the deal, which only applies to residents in the U.S. and Canada, will be recognized by its partners, including Best Buy and Staples and includes its Limited Edition covers. Consumers can also opt to purchase the tablet directly online or from a Microsoft retail location.

The Touch Cover typically retails for $119.99 while the Type Cover retails for $129.99. From our own experience with both, we definitely recommend the Type Cover over the touch option because it offers a much more tactile experience.

Microsoft hasn’t disclosed the sales figures for the Surface RT yet, though one analyst recently said the device is set to join the Kin and Zune in the grave. Skepticism toward the tablet isn’t totally unwarranted; the device runs on a mobile processor and has very limited access to applications compared to its more powerful Windows 8-powered counterparts.
