Sony announced the Xperia Z at CES 2013 back in January 2013, and although the water resistant smartphone has been the bestselling handset in Japan for six weeks running, the company still hasn’t found an American carrier to help sell the phone, until now.
Speaking to a group of reporters earlier today at the D11 conference in California, Sony’s Kaz Hirai and Phil Molyneux revealed that the long wait is finally be coming to an end. “We will make an announcement about the Xperia Z with a carrier very shortly,” Hirai said. Molyneux later clarified that the smartphone would hit the American market in the next few weeks.
We still don’t know what U.S. carrier will pick up the Xperia Z for Sony, but it’s likely that AT&T will carry the device since it has carried other Sony devices recently.
