We already know that EA has pledged to no longer use their much maligned Online Pass system with upcoming games. That news came a few weeks back.
Today, GamesBeat has learned straight from the mouth of the proverbial horse that EA will also be retroactively stripping their older games of the Online Pass system. Here’s EA’s Senior Director of Corporate Communications, John Reseburg, on the matter.
“As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well…We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.”
Of course, this means that snagging aging EA games at used retailers in the near future will be a whole lot less frustrating when it comes time to hop online.
The Online Pass screen prompts will either disappear completely, or EA will give out the Online Pass downloads for free. Either way, paying to hop online in EA’s major titles from the last several years will soon be a thing of the past.
