Twitter Rolls out Android and iPhone Updates to Compete with 3rd Party Apps

Twitter released new updates for its official Android and iOS apps today that offer a number of new features to improve the social network’s mobile experience. It should also help the social network catch up with some of the more attractive third party app offerings.

The first thing you’ll notice once you download the update is that you can see can now see your own avatar and Twitter handle, which gives the user a better sense of what their next tweet will look like. Even more exciting, is a feature that lets you switch between different Twitter accounts by tapping your avatar.

The new updates also helps streamline the experience across Twitter’s apps for iOS and Android, bringing the most popular features from each app to the opposite operating system. Android gets more detailed, expandable notifications, while the iOS version finally loses those borders so tweets can fill the entire screen.
