Nokia discussed its “Nokia Amber” update for Lumia devices in length when it revealed the Lumia 925 earlier this month. The software update will add several new features to some of Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 handsets. So many, in fact, that it has its own WP8 GDR2 code name, which is essentially a new version of Windows Phone that was built to add enhancements to Nokia’s smartphones. A new batch of images provides us a glimpse of what to expect, and they were first published by DoSpy but surfaced in the WPCentral forums.
Nokia Amber will add FM radio support, a new sleeping screen feature that allows users to leave the phone’s screen on without wasting much battery power to view alerts, the time and more. It also includes camera enhancements such as the Nokia Smart Camera software that adds “Best Shot” and “Action Shot” modes, support for camera ISO up to 3200 and the ability to tweak colors and saturation on the fly. Finally, users will be able to flip select Lumia smartphones to automatically put them in silent mode.
Nokia is aiming for a summer rollout for the update but hasn’t shared much more in regards to an exact date. We imagine it will hit the Lumia 925 first followed by other devices, such as the Lumia 920. The leak suggests that the patch will come sooner than later, however. Check out the full gallery above for a look at what Amber will offer.
