Public transit riders rejoice! Bus and train schedule app Transit is now free on iOS and poised to replace Apple Maps as the go-to navigation tool for commuters who need instant access to transit schedules, which Apple‘s service still doesn’t offer. Subway straphangers won’t be left out in the cold either; the Transit app works offline so it’ll load up an easy to use your map even when you’re underground.
Before today, Transit cost users a monthly subscription fee of $0.99 or $4.99 per year in return for online and offline support. Now, the Transit team is opening up the app in an effort to reach a wider audience. The app covers American commuters from coast to coast in 37 cities including NYC, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and DC.
Transit is not available on Android, then again commuter directions are already supported through Google Maps.
