Firefox OS on Xperia E

Mozilla and Foxconn have been sending around a press invitation revealing that the two companies are preparing to unveil a Firefox OS device at an event on June 3, and rumor has it the new gadget will be a tablet.

According to Focus Taiwan, a source close the partnership revealed that Mozilla and Foxconn are working on a Firefox OS tablet. The new device would come on the heels of two recently-unveiled Firefox smartphones, which are sold by Geeksphone, a small Spanish retailer.

Mozilla is best known for its Firefox web browser, but Mozilla ditched Firefox for iOS and the company is having trouble gaining traction on Android where Chrome is King. The only remaining course of action for Mozilla is to release its own open-source mobile OS, which it did after announcing partnerships with LG Electronics, China Unicom, America Movil, ZTE and Deutsche Telekom, among 18 other mobile network operators and four smartphone manufacturers.
