Waze is quite the hot item right now. The social traffic application apparently shot down a buyout bid from Apple and is currently in talks to sell to Facebook for $1 billion. But wait, things get even hotter: apparently Google is interested in bidding on Waze in an effort to knock it out of Facebook’s grasp.
Waze is shopping around for a suitor that’s willing to pay more than $1 billion, Bloomberg said Friday, noting that another possible route is to remain private and raise capital instead. Holding out can be dangerous, however—Groupon once turned down a $6 billion offer from Google and the firm is now worth well below that figure.
Apparently neither Facebook nor Google is “close to clinching a deal” with Waze, Bloomberg said, and any current discussion may quickly dissolve.
