Earlier today, LG officially announced the Optimus GJ, a waterproof version of its high-end Optimus G handset, at an event in Taiwan that featured bikini-clad woman with (what we hope are temporary) LG tattoos adorning their bodies. The new smartphone costs $600 and launches in Taiwan in June.
The LG Optimus GJ is essentially a slightly larger and thicker version of its non-waterproof brother (131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm vs. 136.9 x 68.9 x 9.9 mm). The handset is IPX7 certified, meaning you can take it up to one meter (about 3.2 feet) underwater for up to 30 minutes. The Optimus GJ also features a 4.7-inch HD display, Bluetooth 4.0, a 13MP camera, a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory (additional memory available via a microSD slot), and a 2,280 mAh battery.
The LG Optimus GJ launches in Taiwan next month in two different colors (black or black/red). LG has yet to announce if and when the waterproof handset will be available to the international market.
