EA is Making Wii U Games, Just Not as Many as for the Xbox One and PS4

EA is still making Wii U games, according to the company’s CFO Blake Jorgensen. His statement counters that of spokesperson Jeff Brown who claimed that EA is no longer developing games for the latest Nintendo console.

Jorgensen made his comment during that Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference, stating that while EA still will support the Wii U, they just will be developing for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 more.

“You know, I think Nintendo’s business was more [an] extension of their last console…We are building titles for the Nintendo console, but not anywhere near as many as we are for PS or Xbox…

…I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it’ll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go.”

EA stirred the pot earlier this month when it said it would not be bringing the Frostbite 3 graphic engine or Madden 25 to the Wii U.

Seeing as the CFO is one of the higher ranking members of the company, I think his word can be taken more seriously than a spokesperson’s. EA would not abandon the Wii U market if there was money to be made there, and despite its slow sales, an audience still does exist.
