Samsung‘s Galaxy S4 is one of the hottest devices on the market right now and the 5-inch smartphone cleared another hurdle this week with a glowing review from Consumer Reports, which praised the handset for its all around top-notch performance.
“It dethrones the LG Optimus G, which occupied the top spot in our Ratings for several months,” notes Consumer Reports.
The report praises the Galaxy S4’s 5-inch HD display, adding that Samsung’s new suite of gesture controls and sensors make it easier than ever to create and share content seamlessly (you can even use the S4 while wearing gloves).
Consumer Reports also praises the handset’s true multi-tasking. The Galaxy S4 lets you use two apps at the same time, splitting the screen in half so you can watch a video while reading email, a feature Samsung first introduced in its Note smartphones. The Galaxy S4’s IR blaster is also a nice touch, CR notes, especially for “couch potatoes” who want to control their TVs but can’t find the remote. The HTC One also offers this feature, as does the new Optimus G Pro.
However, in the end Consumer Reports suggests that if you’re in the market for a new smartphone you may want to hold off just a big longer. Google’s upcoming Nexus model of the Galaxy S4 will feature a stripped down version of the Samsung handset that runs pure Android, and rumor has it the upcoming variant may be the first to run Android 4.3. Then again, if you like what Samsung has to offer (easy gesture control, split-screen multi-tasking and IR blaster) there’s no reason to wait.
