HTC recently confirmed in a statement that it won’t release a version of the HTC One with a pure Android experience. Despite that comment, however, a new rumor surfaced Monday that suggests the company may release a phone later this summer that’s similar to the HTC One but without Sense installed.

The news is hard to swallow, especially because HTC has put a ton of time and development into its Sense 5 skin that sits on top of Android. And because it already denied earlier reports. As such, we’re guessing that this is an entirely different phone — if it exists at all – and not actually the HTC One.

In addition to that rumor, the source, @LlabTooFeR on Twitter, said that the existing model of the HTC One will receive an update in about two or three weeks that will offer a tweaked notification panel with new settings options, a keyboard with swipe support and a lockscreen that allows users to add new widgets. It may also include Android 4.2.2.

TechnoBuffalo reached out to HTC for comment and a company spokesperson said “HTC doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.”
